A man may have physiological or anatomical condition that prevents the passage of sperm in the ejaculate. In this condition the sperms can be retrieved surgically from the epididymis or the testicular tissue.read more
Men can experience fertility issues, and they can often be easily corrected. Problems with male fertility can sometimes be caused by low sperm count, low sperm motility or problems related to sperm morphology.
We at Medicover Fertility believe that a thorough examination and exact diagnosis by our clinician is a must for framing a treatment plan to resolve fertility issues. This diagnosis can involve two to three semen analyses, blood tests for a hormone check, the review of the male’s family history and a physical examination.
Treatment is based entirely on the individual and it can range from the most basic drugs to minor surgical procedures to extract sperm. There are many surgical sperm retrieval techniques available that can be useful for such patients.
PESA stands for percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration. After mild sedation, a small needle is inserted through the skin of the scrotum to collect sperm from the epididymis over the testes, where sperm are usually stored after production. The sperm may be retrieved by delicate suction. This method is typically used if the male is not able to produce any sperm during the ejaculation (discharge). The reason for the absence of sperm may be because of blockage or result of prior surgery.
Microsurgical TESE (Micro-TESE) is a surgical procedure used to find sperm in men with non-obstructive azoospermia or extreme testicular disappointment. Micro-TESE is particularly useful in these men, as there might be exceptionally limited territories of sperm creation that might be missed during needle biopsies. This includes an operation performed through a small midline entry point in the scrotum, through which one or both testicles can be seen. The specialist looks at the testicle(s) under the magnifying instrument for healthy areas of seminiferous tubules. The surgeon extracts these tissues which are analysed and processed in ART laboratory for the presence of sperms.
